Gone is Nowhere / Væk er ingen steder / Ոչ մէկ տեղ գնաց

The music film work explores the innate inner dissonance of generational trauma in a documentary and performative treatment of the movement, elongation and fragmentation of escape.

Based on the Armenian Genocide and Danish humanitarian Karen Jeppe’s extensive work to rescue thousands of captured Armenian refugees, mainly women and children in the early 20th century, the horrors of the past are revealed in flashes. ‘Gone is Nowhere’ emphasizes how the complex and elongated nature of refuge, in the face of the cyclical dynamics of human experience, can never be confined to one time, but will continue to affect present and future generations. During CPH:DOX, the film ‘Gone is Nowhere’ was presented framed by a live performance with the film’s directors and performers, musicians Katinka Fogh Vindelev (soprano) and Louise Gorm (violinist). In addition, Armenian documentary filmmaker and photographer Nazik Armenakyan was invited to participate in a post-screening talk with Katinka and Louise and others. Over a ten-year period (2005-2015), Nazik has documented and portrayed the last survivors of the Armenian Genocide in the photo series ‘SURVIVORS’.

Development statement
This film is the result of years of artistic research into the movement of flight within a specific art project called Fragments of Flight and the legacy and testimonies of Karen Jeppe.

During this period, we were in direct contact with and met several people with lived experiences of flight. These meetings and exchanges have indirectly influenced and inspired both our work and this film. We want to thank the follow artists for taking part in the development and creation of Fragments of Flight that lead us to the creation of our film
